The History of Bangalore
This mural was commissioned for the Olde Bangalore clubhouse of Utopia resort in Devanahalli. The resort tries to recreate elements of the Cities colonial past, we were asked to create a mural which brought out elements of the history Bangalore: The mural depicts the figure of Kempegowda who founded the city in the sixteenth century, in its four corners are the watch towers which Kempegowda erected on the cardinal points of the compass around Bangalore describing the limits which he estimated that Bangalore could grow to (of course today the city limits have extended many miles beyond the parameters he set!) The mural is created from collage made up of a series of maps depicting Bangalore and its surrounding environs, creating the typography in glazed ceramic was particularly challenging.
