    Introducing South India

Introductions and reflections on South India

What sort of programme is this?

These programmes are for groups of people who are travelling with an educational or professional study purpose or because of personal interests. They have evolved in response to a need that visitors to India have, for a space and process which helps them to be introduced to the country and for a space for reflection at the end of a visit.

What would we do?

Depending on the group the visit can last for between one to seven days through a mix of experiential visits and excursions to places of interest in our area, discussions, films, and art work. Each visit is usually supported by a theme which the group is studying which gives the programme a focus eg: education, theology, arts of South India, pilgrimages to explore the religions of South India, craft and fairtrade. This theme is fixed in advance of the visit and a programme of activites is discussed and arranged with the group leader. Many groups have also welcomed returning to Sangam at the end of a journey around India to reflect on their journey.

Where do we stay?

We run these programmes from Sangams residential site which is called THE LAND, which is on the edge of the village of Silvepura, near Bangalore. Please click on the link at the bottom of the page for details of the accommodation. (Or type www.sahiprojects/facilities.com)

Who runs these progammes?

Sangam is run by Kiran, Imogen and Roshan Sahi.. Kiran specialised in Design (NID, Amedabad) and Roshan in Art (Shantiniketan.) Imogen Sahi is a teacher of Science, with Biology and Geography (Exeter, Cambridge) The three of them run the programme at Sangam and are with you throughout the process.

Jyoti Sahi is an artist who has been working for many years on themes relating to Indian tribal stories, and the symbols which link these stories to the dominant religions within India. Jyoti often runs art workshops and cultural discussions at Sangam.

Anjali Sahi is a professional dancer who trained in Bharatnatyam at Kalakshetra Chennai, and is a teacher of art and craft. Anjali often works with us on projects which involve Dance and Indian patterning and crafts.

How could I arrange a group visit?

If you or your institution are interested in such a process please contact us and we can coordinate with your travel plans. Our website is still under construction and therefore the people and contact us pages may not yet work. Emailing us directly will be easiest right now. So please email Imogen Sahi at sangaminfo@gmail.com
