Residential Pottery visits for professional or hobby potters.
These are residential programmes for groups of potters from other parts of India or other countries who come to stay with us for a two week programme of workshops. During these visits:
Personal studio time: You can:-Have unlimited use of the studio space and its resources to explore and develop your own work in your own time.
-Be shown the tessellating tiled mural making techniques which are used by the ceramicists working at Sangam and have a chance to make a small scale tessellating tiled mural or panel using relief and texture.
-Be given advice and support on how to use moulds, slip cast work, coiled and slabbing technique.
-Learn about preparing, grinding and mixing your own glazes.
-Have a chance to participate/observe the firings of Sangam?s wood fired kiln (with your work in it) participate in and learn about Raku firing.
-Be given a demonstration in traditional throwing techniques by a local potter and be shown how to use hand turned potters wheels.
-Visit a village which is entirely populated by a community of potters, including visiting their kilns.
-Visit and industrial ceramic pipe factory and have a chance to carve a ?green? clay pipe.
-Have a chance to experiment with the local lake clay
-Explore the Bangalore area through some day trips and excursions to places of general interest to the group such as a trip to a local farming and spice market, a visit to a block printing studio, a day trip to a C12th temple, excursions via local folk shrines, and nature walks.
-Participate in cultural workshops of interest to the group eg: learn about local artistic rituals, rangoli patterning, pot painting and patterning, folk dances, festivals and stories.
Where do we stay?
The visits are based at Sangams residential site which is called THE LAND, which is on the edge of the village of Silvepura, near Bangalore. Please see our link on www.sahiprojects.com/facilities for details of the accommodation and facilities.
