A study visit case study: February half term 2008

In February 2008 a group of teachers from Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) and Devon LA's travelled to Bangalore to spend 10 days participating in Sangam's twice yearly educational study visit programme for teachers.

The focus of their visit was:
1) Activities which supported the delivery of KS1 and 2 (primary) geography: Using enquiry questioning to gather information about a rural locality in India, supported by understanding the rural surroundings and the nearby Urban locality.
2) Visits and experience in a diverse range of primary schools: they visited five different schools during the ten days, and taught in two of them.
3) Gathering artifacts for use as a teaching tool about India: They practically bought out our local farming market!
4) Ideas for creative ways of teaching about India: Patterning, folk dance, music and artistic activities, and ideas for how to use their artifacts and photos back in the classroom.
