Day 7- FRIDAY- Artifact gathering at a rural market.
We got to the market quite early as to catch the cooler part of the day. It was a huge farming market selling vegetables, flowers, and spices in piles. There were stalls which just sold puja items and coloured powder, and many stalls for Kitchen, farms, and home use. We did a lot of our artifact shopping here. It was a wonderful experience of real, rural, vibrant India!
On the way back we stopped at some stone carvings and shrines, where Kiran explained to us the folk symbols traditional to this part of India.
That afternoon we had some well needed free time, and some of us chose to continue with the village study activity. I caught up on my diary- so many days had passed and we had seen so much it was difficult to record it all! Some of the group spent some time downloading their images so far onto Claires (wonderful) laptop and sorting them into folders.
In the late afternoon we were invited to Tea with Jane (Kiran and Roshan's mother.) She has run Sita school for 30 years now and was able to answer our many many questions about the range and diversity which is the Indian education system. It was really useful to hear her perspective on it all.
