Day 8-A day out to Temples and a Bird Sanctuary

Day 8- SATURDAY- Day out to Temples, and a Bird Sanctuary.

We drove out of the Bangalore area and towards the Mysore area where the landscape became much lusher and greener with sparkling paddy fields, and sugar cane standing in water from the Cauvery river.

Our first stop was at a restaurant where we had a wonderful masala dosa! Not quite like Sangam's home cooked version, but crispy and delicious never the less.

The next stop was Somnathpur temple, where the stone was so hot under our feet we were hopping about as Kiran explained the stories that the intricate carvings illustrated.

We then went to the historic island of SriRangapattanam where Tippu Sultan was famously defeated. Where there is a wonderful water/bird sanctuary. We took a boat out to get closer to the birds, and (to Serena's horror) quite close to a Crocodile!

The day had been timed so well that we were there just as the sun was setting and the birds were all coming in to roost, and the fruit bats were just waking up and taking off.
